Sea Islands Book Club Meets December 15!

The Sea Islands Book Club will meet at the library on Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 2:00 p.m. to discuss Kindred by Octavia E. Butler. Mysteriously transported back in time to the antebellum South, Dana, a modern Black woman raised in the age of Civil Rights and Black Power, must tackle the cruel realities of Black history in America. Join us for light refreshments and good conversation!

Sea Islands Book Club Reads The Enemy by Lee Child

The Sea Islands Book Club is reading The Enemy by Lee Child and will meet to discuss the book on Tuesday, April 21 at 2:00 p.m. It’s the eve of 1990 and Jack Reacher, a military police officer, reports to his new post. He is immediately thrown into investigating the death of a two-star general at a seedy motel near Fort Bird, NC, the bludgeoning death of the general’s wife at home, and the murder of a gay Delta Force soldier. And just where is the general's briefcase containing sensitive information? Copies of the book may be obtained from the Reference Desk for check out while supplies last.

Sea Islands Book Club in July

Don't miss the Sea Islands Book Club meeting on Tuesday, July 15, from 2-3 p.m. We'll be discussing The Spirit of Sweetgrass by Nicole Seitz. Essie Mae Laveau Jenkins is a 78-year-old sweetgrass basket weaver who is facing losing her home, her basket stand, and her independence. Her dead husband talks her into coming to Heaven, where she reunites with Gullahs and African ancestors. Essie Mae must find inner strength to keep her South Carolina family together. Come to the session of your choice and discuss Gal: A True Life by Ruthie Bolton. This memoir of a courageous young African American girl, born in the Hungry Neck section of Charleston, speaks of her upbringing by her grandmother and an abusive step-grandfather and how she overcame many obstacles to find happiness as an adult. Copies of the book may be obtained from the Reference Desk while supplies last.

The Sea Islands Book Club is reading Losing the Moon by Patti Callahan Henry this month. Come to the session of your choice to discuss the book with fellow adults who love to read! Sessions will be held on Tuesday, April 15 at 2:00 p.m. and on Thursday, April 17 at 6:00 p.m. Next month's selection will be Nowhere Else on Earth by Josephine Humphreys. Copies of Humphreys' book will be available for check out at this month's meetings.
